Hello, I’m Brittany Elges
Like many of you, 2020 made me reassess my life. After a bit of panicking, and a lot of reflection, it was time to write my own story.After finishing my certificate in Short Story Writing & Novel writing from the Institute for Writers, formally known as Long Ridge Writers Group, I started working with other authors as we built up our own careers. That’s when I found my love for editing, honing my skills ever since. Now I’m an editor with Lavish Publishing, freelancing here.Take a look around and let me know if there is anything I can take off your plate. What's Included?
All novels get a 2k word sample. Short stories, or articles get a sample of one third the word count.
Editing Style?
I adhere to Chicago Manual of Style for editing.
What format do you use?
Preferred Platform is Ellipsus. I’m open to using Google Docs as an alternative.I do request all submissions are sent 12pt font, and in black. Your chapter breaks can be a different font size and color.We do not utilize or encourage the use of generative AI. Thus the want to use Ellipsus.
What genres do/don't you edit?
Do: I love paranormal, urban fantasy, fantasy, romance, mysteries, horror, science fiction, erotica, westerns, and historical.Don't: Dark Fantasy. As well as any genre including the following: I will not work with or represent stories with detailed snuff on stage including – racial abuse, sexual abuse, suicide, or pedofilia.
What is the process?
If you purchase my exclusivity package, you get me for six weeks all to yourself. That means, I will edit your work as many times as you want, so long as you get me revisions within our time frame.All other packages are single read throughs. Meaning, I edit it and give it back to you, done. I get six weeks to return it, as I could also be working on other authors works at that time.If you need edits sooner, a $250 charge is added for each week we shave off my six week turn around.
Do you require a contract?
Yes. I require a contract for all transactions.My contracts detail my services, timelines, and provide protections for both you and I.

Developmental
Developmental editing evaluates the overall structure of the book. From plot development, flow, pace, character arc, word choice, and overall mood of the book.
Line
Line edits straight forward. Each line is evaluated for sentence structure, and how it's fits into the over all paragraph.
Editing Types
Copy
Copy editing consists of checking grammar, punctation, spelling, correcting commonly misspelled words, auto-corrected words, and provide fact checks.
Proof
Proofreading is the final step to a fully edited manuscript. With all major edits complete, proofreading gives me the opportunity to look at your manuscript with fresh eyes for typos, missing or repeated words, spacing, formatting, and over all reading consistency.
